Elis Hallik’s Orchestral Work “Aegis” to be Performed by ERSO and Kristiina Poska On September 27, 2024, the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra (ERSO) and conductor Kristiina Poska will perform Elis Hallik’s orchestral work “Aegis” at the Estonia Concert Hall. The concert is part of ERSO’s season program and will also feature works by Jean Sibelius and Edward Elgar. In addition to “Aegis”, the program includes Edward Elgar’s Cello Concerto in E minor, Op. 85, one of the most beloved cello concertos, renowned for its deep emotional expression and beautiful melodies. The evening will conclude with Jean Sibelius’ music, creating a powerful and emotional musical experience. “Aegis” is a special piece in Elis Hallik’s repertoire, being the only work she has composed entirely on the island of Kihnu. The piece reflects themes of nature and time, capturing the unique atmosphere of the island’s tranquility and timelessness. “Aegis” was commissioned by Erki Pehk and Sinfonietta Rīga, and it is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Estonia. The piece was composed in 2018, lasts 11 minutes, and is published by Schott Music. The world premiere of “Aegis” took place on October 5, 2018, at the CAFe Budapest Festival in Müpa Budapest, Hungary, performed by Sinfonietta Rīga, conducted by Erki Pehk.
